ASH White

Color: Heartwood islight tan to dark brown; sapwood is creamy white. Similar inappearance to white oak, but frequently more yellow.

Grain: Bold, straight,moderately open grain with occasional wavy figuring. Can havestrong contrast in grain in plainsaw boards.

Variations within species andgrades: Sometimes confused with hickory; the zone oflarge pores is more distinctive in ash, similar to that of redoak.
